A writing community for greek mythology lovers

That sounds very interesting but I'm a little hesitant as I've never participated in such a thing before. Is there any tutorial or guide available that would explain what a participant can and cannot do?

    Ouija boards

It didn't start out as a game, Alice. It was a spiritualist device for a very long time before Hasbro decided to turn it into a "game". I have used a ouija board and I do think they are dangerous. Yes, spirits are there no matter what but the ouija board is inviting them into this plane and...

What's on your 2012 reading list?

I don't set goals for my reading. I have always been a voracious reader, reading several books a week most of the time. Now that I got a Kindle for Christmas, I read tons without even having to go to the library or buy books at the thrift store. Mostly I just download the free Kindle books so...

Not owning the land and living as one with the land

I know that there were many Native American tribes that didn't consider themselves to own the land they lived on. I've always felt that this helped the Europeans push them off their lands as they didn't have that possessiveness that comes from owning. The concepts of not owning the land and...

    Beginning interest in mythology

I know that I was fascinated by the studies we did on Greek and Roman mythology in English Lit in high school but I'd have to say that my interest came before that. I've always been an avid reader and was advanced for my age. I was reading full books in kindergarten and mythology often played...

    First state of the union

I would imagine just as full of bologna as today's State of the Union addresses. If a politician ever got up there and said, "yeah, the economy sucks but I'm trying my darnedest to improve it", I think I'd vote for them forever. Half of what they say is such double-speak that it doesn't...

Celtic myths come from more countries than i realized

The stories about the Blarney Stone may be mythological in nature but the stone itself is real. That's one thing I find fascinating about many of the Celtic myths and legends. Many of them have actual spots where you can see things, such as the stone. Someday, I'd love to visit the Emerald...

Celtic myths come from more countries than i realized

As I delve into the history of Celtic mythology, I was surprised to learn that this area covers more than just Irish folklore. I always thought it just referred to the Irish but I read that the legends also include tales from Wales, Scotland, Cornwall and Brittany.

    "funny name" legends

I can beat that and it's a true story, too. A guy in my father-in-law's motorcycle club named his son Critter. I kid you not! It's on the birth certificate and everything. People like that should be prosecuted for child abuse.

    Mythology in name brands

Yes, Argo still makes starch and other baking products. I buy Argo Cornstarch all the time. Oak Leaves, I'm unfamiliar with Nike as part of mythology. Could you tell me a bit about the story and what branch of mythology it fits into?

If you could speak to any famous person, living or dead....

Who would it be and what would you say? Most people have a question they want answered. I find it very interesting to hear what others say to this one and it often reveals a lot about a person's thought processes.

What are you doing new year's eve?

LegendofJoe, that's sad. That really is. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, too. I've never had any sort of ritual for New Year's Eve really, although the last week/first week each year is my time for re-evaluating what I've accomplished over the past year and what I want to accomplish...

    Fairies

I've often wondered if some of the creatures and species from mythology weren't races that lived upon the earth at one time or even that came from other worlds/dimensions. Although called by various names, many of the creatures' descriptions are similar throughout vastly different cultures.

    Nora roberts and celtic mythology...

I am a fan of Nora Roberts and read her novels avidly, both as herself and in her pen name, J.D. Robb. I especially love any of her novels that deal with a mythological theme and she tends to use the Celtic mythology the most. I don't know much about Celtic mythology and I'm wondering how...

    The love of history

I don't collect anything to do with history, but I do love history. I have an angel collection and would love to add some antique pieces with history behind them but unfortunately, those are a bit beyond my means at the moment.

    Bad message

The Bible tells of the wise men bringing gifts to the baby king. How could you retell that story without that detail? Children get their values messages more from parents than they will in a book.

    History's most important invention

I don't think I could point to just one invention as the most important, although I must agree, OracleLady - language is a big one. I would imagine, though, that the spoken word has always been there. The written language made it possible to preserve history.

    Changing the words

Language evolves. While I deplore the political correctness that seems to have sparked the change, it's a fact that nobody uses the word gay to mean light-hearted anymore. I don't see the big deal here.

    Sasquatch

Myrddin, I also love to hear new things about old Nessie. I mean, I definitely don't believe it's a sea monster, as such. But Loch Ness is super deep, almost like the ocean. They still haven't explored the entire bottom so who knows what sort of mutation or throwback species could be hiding...

    Sasquatch

People scoff at the idea of Sasquatch (also known as Bigfoot or Yeti) but if there wasn't a seed of truth to the legend, why would we find such a creature referred to in Native American mythology as well as several others throughout the world? I don't spend my life searching for proof but I do...
